One of my favourite attainable classics. These things have so much presence - like a drag racer in a tuxedo.
I couldn't believe it was out in the snow!
I, for one, commend the owner for enjoying his car year-round and like to think I'd do the same.
(Fwiw: we don't use salt in this part of Canada and the roads weren't too snowy)

What do you use as a de-icer?

Sand. It gets too cold here for salt to have much effect.

Why did he park near the shopping carts? This man has no fear.

Good call! I didn't even think of that.

Attainable to a select few, haha.

Did not know that. What city are you in?

Edson, Alberta at the moment.

Haha fair enough. Relatively attainable, then.
Decent runners can pop up for as low as $15,000 - I feel that's pretty attainable for a unique classic.

I'd say a general rule of attainability is around $5,000+
But they are pretty good prices either way.

Had to look that one up. Have friends in Edmonton and Calgary and Dawson Creek, BC.

As this is one of the later continuation models I feel better about it being out in snow.
Do vehicles in your area rust heavily with no salt? I live on Lake Erie and always wondered why they don't use sand here.

I always wonder why people don't use alternative to roads to de-ice them. Salt has nothing going for it, except, maybe, price. I had never heard of sand though, here in some regions of France, because salt is so bad for the environment, we use pozolan, a crushed volcanic rock. It's only drawback are that cars are dirtier and that it can be dangerous when snow is gone, it's like driving on a gravel road.

Rust is not a major issue with older cars in this area.
About a month ago, I looked at an '86 Mercury Capri 5.0 (foxbody) for $2500. It was never really stored inside throughout it's life and only had very minor surface rust.
Unfortunately, the owner didn't accept my $1800 offer. I'm hoping its still available in April - then I'll be able to save storage costs.

Nice! I live out in BC's West Kootenays - best riding roads in Canada!
I just live in Edson during the winter for work (oil patch) but have been thinking of Dawson for next winter.

I have been told that area and the surrounding area is drop-dead beautiful. Must go again.

We have the same problems here. A little salt on the highest and worst roads but mostly just cinders (volcanic rock). Talk about a nightmare on a motorcycle.

Damn, I wish I could find a decent Fox-body for that. The few reasonably prices ones I've looked at in recent years have been piles of crap.

Don't feel too bad, this one isn't exactly a peach.
It needs about $2500 in parts and a solid 50-100hrs of labour to be perfect, but it is a solid runner that could be made perfect over time.
(provided you had a secondary vehicle and a roadside assistance membership, of course lol)

Oooh, that's my favorite version too. The facelifted Blake era cars that still had the 1960s Studebaker body, chassis, and interior but went to the modern body colored bumpers, square headlights, and blacked out trim.
I'd love an Avanti - the fact that its an interesting looking classic car that you can actually drive in the winter without worrying about rust (as long as you properly coat the hog traughs) is highly appealing.
